Schwalbe Thunder Burt#

schwalbe-thunder-burt.png

Fast-rolling XC/trail tire running on the Canyon Grizl CF 8 Di2, replacing the Schwalbe G-One RX. 29×2.25 (ETRTO 57-622) — shares the 622 mm bead diameter with 700c wheels. The Super Ground EVO casing balances low weight with meaningful puncture protection; ADDIX Speed is Schwalbe’s fastest-rolling MTB compound.

Compound & Casing#

ADDIX Speed is Schwalbe’s fastest MTB compound — optimised for hard pack, gravel, and XC race conditions. Prioritizes low rolling resistance over maximum grip; the complement to its fast tread pattern.

Super Ground EVO sits in the middle of Schwalbe’s MTB casing range:

CasingProtectionWeight
Super Race EVOMinimalLightest
Super Ground EVOModerate (Kevlar belt)Light
Snakeskin EVOHigh (sidewall + tread)Medium
EvolutionHighMedium-heavy

The Kevlar reinforcement in Super Ground runs under the tread only — no sidewall protection. Adequate for gravel and XC; not suited for technical rocky enduro terrain.

Tread Design#

Semi-slick XC pattern: low-profile ramped centre knobs for fast rolling when upright, transitioning to taller shoulder knobs for cornering traction. Suited to hard-pack, gravel, and light trail — less grip than a full-knob MTB tire in mud or loose conditions.

Tubeless Setup (TLE)#

TLE (Tubeless Easy) uses a shaped bead profile that self-seals more reliably than older TLR designs and requires less force to seat.

Recommended pressures on the Canyon GR 30 CF (27 mm internal width):

Rider weightFrontRear
~80 kg26–30 PSI28–32 PSI

Running tubeless with 3–4 oz sealant. Lower pressures than the G-One RX due to the larger volume (57 mm vs 45 mm).
